God’s Providence: It’s No Coincidence
The phone rang late on a Thursday afternoon. She almost let it go to voicemail, but Kim, our Program Director, decided to answer. Immediately, there was a bit of confusion as both women tried to figure out who they were speaking to and why the call had been made.
Something had gone wrong. The call was either incorrectly dialed or a higher purpose was at play here. When Ayanna had placed the call, she intended to reach a clinic to confirm her appointment for an abortion. Somehow her call was transferred to Option Line, and then to AlphaCare.
As Kim spoke gently with Ayanna on the phone, she was able to explain what AlphaCare was and the services we provide. Then she carefully encouraged Ayanna to come to the office the next morning, an hour before her abortion appointment. She agreed.
At the appointment Ayanna was given a pregnancy test–it was positive. Our nurse continued with an ultrasound, praying all the time, “Lord, use this image to speak life and hope to this Mom.” She took pictures and printed some for Ayanna to take home. After the ultrasound Ayanna was willing to open up about why she had scheduled an abortion and what kind of help she needed. Her burdens were complex (as most are) and not an “easy fix.” Still, our staff was able to begin connecting Ayanna with resources and help. And it was enough to give her hope.
Ayanna chose to keep her baby that day. She already has another appointment with our social worker to continue receiving assistance and encouragement with her pregnancy. Some would say that Ayanna’s phone call was just coincidentally transferred to AlphaCare. But we know better. We know that God put AlphaCare in Ayanna’s path–for her good, for the good of her baby, and for His glory.
