Board Appoints New Executive Director
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce Brooke McDowell as AlphaCare’s Executive Director effective October 1, 2019. The Board’s Search Committee has been active since early 2019 seeking the Lord in this process, conducting a national search as they continued to refine the direction and path forward for AlphaCare. The Board believes Brooke’s passion for AlphaCare’s ministry, desire to bring the love of Christ to her home city of Philadelphia and efforts to facilitate relationships across social divides makes her best suited to implement the organization’s mission, vision and strategy during this next season.
Brooke was raised in Philadelphia, daughter to Bruce McDowell, former pastor at Tenth Presbyterian, and the late Susan McDowell, one of AlphaCare’s founders. In this home, Brooke developed an appreciation of the significance and value of all life and a respect and love for cultural differences. Brooke was educated at Wheaton College and received a Bachelor’s degree, studying Communication and Business/Economics.
Since graduation Brooke has been employed as the Director of Advancement for The City School, and as the Director of Recruitment and Director of Development and University Relations for Cairn University. She volunteered on AlphaCare’s Redemption Project Task Force before coming aboard full time in August of 2016 as Advancement Director. Since November 2018 she has served as AlphaCare’s Interim Co-Executive Director.
Outside of AlphaCare, Brooke chairs the board of the Children’s Jubilee Fund, serves on the Planning Team for the Philadelphia Gospel Movement-Movement Day and has had leadership roles on the diaconate and finance committees at her local church. She currently attends Renewal Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia.
We invite you to come to AlphaCare’s Fundraising Lunch or Dinner, Rooted & Established, on October 17th to hear stories of God’s work firsthand from our clients and an organizational update from Brooke.
The Board is confident Brooke will excel in this challenging position as AlphaCare’s Executive Director.
Personal Message from Brooke McDowell
I am honored to move into the position of Executive Director at AlphaCare. Our ministry is thriving and uniquely poised for growth. We are making and will continue to make a significant impact for Christ on our city. I look forward to continuing AlphaCare’s work alongside our remarkably dedicated and passionate staff and community of supporters.
AlphaCare’s planned move in 2016 to West Philadelphia drew me to apply for a staff position. I held a great desire to help build relationships within the new community, as I also live in West Philly. God used my three years at AlphaCare to develop and grow individual and institutional relationships.
In the coming years we seek to continue deepening partnerships to serve more pregnant women and their families throughout Philadelphia in the areas of deepest need. Please pray for AlphaCare as we continue in our mission to empower pregnant women and families by providing health and social services and serving as a bridge to community resources.
I hope to see you at our events on October 17th. If you are interested in getting to know me personally and discussing AlphaCare’s work and our strategic plans, email me at bmcdowell@alphacarephilly.org.
