Board Profile: Karen Parry
Sometimes God provides for our needs before we’re even aware of them. That’s exactly what He did when He brought Karen Parry to AlphaCare.
Two years ago, Karen joined our Governance and Strategic Planning Committees and was then appointed to our Board of Directors in September of 2022. Her deep commitment to our mission and vision have made her a valuable contributor to our team.
Recently, she’s taken on additional responsibilities as interim management support in preparation for our Executive Director, Brooke’s, maternity leave.
During her last office visit, Karen shared her passion for the work we do at AlphaCare, her commitment to our mission, and her desire to help us continue to grow and evolve as an organization.
Q: How did you get connected with AlphaCare?
A: Through my husband, Jack. He and Brooke were both in C12 (a Christian business leaders’ forum) together. That’s how I first learned about AlphaCare.
Q: What is your passion for AlphaCare’s work?
A: It’s how AlphaCare serves women in need. I decided to get involved because I just felt I should and I had availability, but what I’ve grown to love and be passionate about is the more I learn, the more I understand the depth and extent of care. AlphaCare is striving to holistically serve the women. The support services is what’s most impressive to me.
Q: Why were you interested in moving into interim management support?
A: When I found out Brooke was pregnant with twins, I just felt I needed to say to Brooke, “How can I help?”. At the same time and unbeknownst to me, Brooke was planning to ask me if I could help. It was a God thing. I felt the Lord saying, “Karen, find out how you can help.”
Q: What are you looking forward to most in this role?
A: I’m already loving getting to know everybody. What a great benefit it is to get to know the staff and learn more about their personal lives. I feel privileged to get the “inside scoop” at the office.
Q: Is there something about AlphaCare you wish more people knew?
A: The breadth of care. Most crisis pregnancy centers like AlphaCare are called “Pregnancy Resource Centers”, but I don’t think people really understand the “resources” part. People I’ve introduced to AlphaCare through events like the Banquet are always surprised by the number and depth of resources. It’s not just about celebrating the birth of a child. It’s also about help with things like housing, employment, and healing from trauma.
Our team is thrilled to have the opportunity to work more closely with Karen during this time. We’re confident that her leadership and expertise will continue to positively impact our work and further our mission to serve the Lord through excellent service to our clients.
