Elena’s Journey from Uncertainty to New Life
When 19-year-old Elena* suspected she was pregnant, she first went to Planned Parenthood to confirm. But when she was there, someone handed her a slip of paper.
On the slip of paper was AlphaCare’s information.
We shouldn’t be surprised when God works in this way, and yet acts like this still spark wonder within us. They remind us of the Lord’s sovereignty: Nothing is an accident.
By God’s grace, Elena found out about AlphaCare and scheduled an appointment. She came in for an ultrasound and pregnancy test, and Nurse Sue confirmed she was pregnant. However, Elena was a college student without a stable income or housing. She wasn’t sure what to do and contemplated whether she should just get an abortion.
A couple of weeks went by, and Nurse Sue followed up with Elena to see how she was doing. At the time, she was still undecided about continuing with her pregnancy, and as always, we knew our place was not to convince. Not to push. Not to pry. Only to offer support, pray — and to let the Lord work His will.
After 3 months, Elena reached out to us requesting an appointment for social services: she was keeping her baby, but she needed help.
Our team was overjoyed, and we were ready to support Elena in preparing for her baby.
Working with our social worker Lisa, Elena was able to…
- move into temporary healthy housing for the last months of her pregnancy
- find a job
- find a birth doula and counselor
- obtain essential items to bring her baby into the world, including a baby carrier, car seat, stroller system, pack ‘n play, diapers, wipes, clothing, and blankets
By the grace of God, Elena gave birth to a healthy baby. We praise the Lord for bringing Elena to AlphaCare, for giving her strength to continue with her pregnancy, and for helping us provide for her. Because of God and his goodness, new life was brought into the world.
During Elena’s last prenatal medical appointment with AlphaCare, she expressed how thankful she was for all the ways AlphaCare helped her prepare for her baby and supported her emotionally. Elena told us she was even able to get her mother a job through a resource line we provided.
Her mother had been struggling deeply with anxiety and spent almost all her time in the room she rents. Today, she loves being able to get out and go to her job every day.
God works in ways that we don’t always get the chance to see — touching the lives of people we may never know. But with Elena and her mother, God blessed us with a peek into the far-reaching impact of our work, and for that, we are forever grateful.
