Total Dependence: God Does the Heavy Lifting
When she first stepped onto the Mobile Medical Unit, Jasmin had no idea what she was going to do. Her family was pressuring her to have an abortion and even more, her baby’s father would not support her choice to keep her baby. The weight of her circumstances were clearly visible on her face and in her posture.
As Jasmin had her ultrasound, the AlphaCare staff was able to begin unpacking some of the fears and concerns that she carried–fears that she couldn’t care for her baby alone. Where would she live? How would she work with a baby? How would she pay for all of the medical bills? There was no easy fix for this kind of anxiety, but our staff was able to reassure her that she would not be all alone. It would still be difficult, but we’d be there to walk with her through her pregnancy. We explained to her the extent of our services and what we’d be able to help her accomplish.
Yet, Jasmin left conflicted and still unsure of the choice she would make. After she left, our staff prayed that God would spare this baby’s life and allow Jasmin to experience the joys of becoming a mother. Several days later, Jasmin called AlphaCare–she wanted to come back and begin our program for resources and support. We were so excited and relieved!
During her follow-up appointments, Jasmin was referred to prenatal care and our social worker walked her through the process for obtaining insurance. She was given a few pieces of maternity clothing, her first onesie for baby and an abundance of additional resources for a free crib, car seat, and other necessary items for caring for her baby.
We praise God that He ordained Jasmin’s steps, brought her to AlphaCare and led her to choose life for her baby.
