An Intimidating Delivery
Things have not been easy for Keyanna. She first came to AlphaCare 6 years ago, pregnant with her first child at 19. This past summer she returned to AlphaCare when she found herself pregnant again.
Without a stable support system, Keyanna works on and off to provide for her children while also struggling against the rising costs of living and childcare. Her relationship with the father of her children is very volatile, and she often finds herself doing it all alone.
Last month two of AlphaCare’s volunteers were assigned to deliver essential material goods and special presents to Keyanna and her children through Hope Delivered, our Christmas campaign. Keyanna didn’t think that anyone would feel comfortable walking up to her door.
Living in a run down public housing project, it looks intimidating and even feels unsafe. But for Keyanna, it’s her only option. As she waited for her delivery, she was fully prepared to receive a call from the volunteers asking her to come down to get her bags from the parking lot. As she was slipping on her shoes, she heard a knock at the door.
Imagine Keyanna’s surprise when she opened the door to two friendly faces and bags filled with gifts. The volunteers had walked all the way up to the third floor just to make the delivery!
Keyanna was so touched by the unexpected gesture that she texted Lisa, AlphaCare’s client advocate, to express how grateful she is for not only the volunteers but also the items she received. Because of our donors and volunteers, moments like these are possible. Thank you.
