Comprehensive Care: Safety
Imagine standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon enjoying the immense beauty and majesty of the scenery. Insert a two-year old into the story, standing beside you. Suddenly there’s no more enjoyment, only constant watchfulness and a bit of anxiety. Safety is important, but even more so when caring for someone who doesn’t have the understanding or ability to protect himself.
Jada spotted our Mobile Medical Unit parked along the sidewalk. As she got closer and read what was printed on the side, she decided to knock. Maybe they’d help her?
When Jada returned later for her pregnancy test appointment, she knew right away that these were people she could trust to help take care of her. She got a positive test result, saw her baby on the ultrasound and was scheduled for a follow-up appointment to connect her with more resources. Everything was going along so perfectly.
It wasn’t until Jada had delivered her beautiful baby boy that the stress started to build. Her perception of her safety had shifted. She didn’t think a whole lot about her living conditions until she had a child to care for and protect. Her block was littered with used needles and frequented by drug activity. To top it off, her landlord would do nothing to help her with the declining condition of her home. She needed help and didn’t know where to start.
The AlphaCare staff jumped into action. They assisted Jada with her finances and budgeting and helped her search for affordable housing. Karissa, AlphaCare’s Client Advocate, connected her with programs for rental assistance and helped her navigate the crisis of handling a utility shut-off notice.
Eventually, with AlphaCare’s help, Jada was able to find safe, affordable housing and successfully move her family into a new home. Safety is important. For Jada, it was even more important to provide safety for her baby.
Jada is just like you or me. She’s a loving mom who wants to protect and provide for her child. You do, too–it’s why you support AlphaCare. And thanks to you and your support, AlphaCare was there to help Jada achieve her goal. Will you help us aid more mothers in their pursuit of safety?
